Adding a new Main Menu Item |
- Click the “New Main Menu” button to open the “Edit Menu Settings” window.
- Fill in the fields for your new menu item:
- Name - This is what will display in the main menu
- Menu order - the order this item will be displayed in. You can easily change this later from the Site Administration page
- Link in main menu - This means that clicking on this main menu item will automatically take the user to the first page within this section. Un-tick this box to force the user to manually select the page they want from the dropdown.
Note: Do not uncheck this box if “Include items in menu” is also unchecked
- Include items in menu - This allows a dropdown of the submenu items to appear. If you do not want a drop down or pop out menu to appear, uncheck this box
- Side menu - If the design of your website includes a side or secondary menu, then check this box to include items in this section in the side menu
- Inactive - Check this box to make this whole menu section inactive (not available to be viewed by the public)
Note: Creating an inactive main menu item with active pages inside it can be useful to store hidden pages or newsletters.
- Page restriction - define who is able to view this menu section. This is usually set to “Always show”. You can define a period of time that this menu is available. Outside of this timeframe the menu item will automatically become inactive. This is usually left blank.
- Press “Save” to save your new main menu item or “Close” to return to the Site Administration menu without saving.
Note: Once you have added your new main menu item, you can easily change any of these settings in the future by clicking on the “Setup” icon:
